PROBLEM
Your participants need to be split into two or multiple categories and automatically arranged into their respective group in the Participant Grid view in TownVOTE.
SOLUTION
Whether it's "Democrats" and "Republicans", "USA" vs "Canada" or "Clergy" and "Laity", or "District 1", "District 2", "District 3" and "District 4", you'd like your voting grid to look something like this:
Let's get started. First, create a Participant List that has the Category field populated with relevant information. Use the sample file attached below and edit it, but keep in mind the comma-separated syntax:
Keypad ID, Weight, First Name, Last Name, Category
Weight is typically "1" unless you are using weighted/proxy voting, so that "1 person has only 1 vote" associated with them.
Next, import the list into TownVOTE.
Keep in mind to CLOSE any open Excel widows, otherwise you will not be able to import the file!
Next, change the color of each Category/Group (if you'd like):
Next, back on the Agenda page, create a new Topic/Agenda Item and select Categorization - Enable Categories. Then select the Category field from the drop-down:
Initially, you may have a grid that looks like this so use the Settings Panel (press ESC while the vote is open, or click the blue GEAR icon if you're using the Projector View) to change the options:
For example:
Show Header: ON
Show Names: ON
Truncate Text: OFF
Topic Text: Full and others.
Don't forget to experiment with the number of rows and columns and when you're happy with the layout, click Set as Default to remember it forever.
You should end up with something like this:
