TownVOTE Participant List (PL) Template

Modified on Wed, May 21 at 7:12 AM

NOTE: This solution applies to an Identifiable Participant List. To create an Anonymous Participant List, use the Keypad Range feature:

PROBLEM

Your Participant List is more than a few voters long and you'd like to enter them in Excel or other editor, but don't know the syntax of the import file.

SOLUTION

Create a template that lets you edit everything in Excel and then import the final CSV file back into TownVOTE.

Start by creating a single record in TownVOTE, on the Participants page, using the Individual Participant (1) option. Enter the Keypad ID, Weight (default is one, but if you're using proxy/weighted voting, you'll enter the number here), First Name, Last Name, and Category (2). Click Add (3) and then Export (4).

Only Keypad ID and Weight are REQUIRED, everything else is OPTIONAL, but naturally, you're doing this because you NEED to identify the Participants by name or another way in the reports.

Any plain text can be entered into the First and Last Name fields, such as "Representative" or "Councilmember" if needed.

Open the exported CSV file in Excel, Notepad, or other text editor and finish entering the data into it. Save it and close Excel.

NOTE: Notepad can be open, but Excel will 'lock' the file and you let you import the new PL to TownVOTE.

NOTE: The CSV file does not need any column headers, so don't add any. Only fill out the fields with identifiable information that ties the person to the Keypad (ID).
