How Can I Test My Keypads?

Modified on Tue, Feb 11 at 12:07 PM

PROBLEM

I want to know if my keypads are properly paired with the receiver, or I need to troubleshoot and find those keypads that don't seem to work, or I need to know which specific Keypad ID is not working correctly.

SOLUTION

Use the PowerPoint plugin, the Settings page on the EZ-VOTE Connect Dashboard, or use TownVOTE (if the app is available in your account) to show a grid of keypads that corresponds with your keypad range, and show the keypad vote confirmation is a visual, verifiable format.

This is the Test Grid that you can find in the EZ-VOTE PowerPoint Plugin via Tools --> Base Manager --> Test Keypads.

First, you'll see that the base is connected/detected. If you don't see it listed in the Base Manager table, another program might be running in the background that has already connected to it, and is blocking the Plugin from accessing it.

If you do see the base receiver detected, click the Test Keypads button and select the size of the grid you need to test:

As you press the voting buttons on the keypads themselves, the boxes within the grid will light up green:

As you're testing the keypads and the boxes turn green, make sure to check for 'low battery' indicator that shows on the keypad's display. See this article for all Keypad Display Notifications. If it does, change the batteries when you get a chance. They might still work another day, or a week, but since the indicator doesn't specifically show HOW MUCH of the battery is left, we recommend changing them sooner, rather than later.

If the keypads are not working, change the batteries, and make sure that you see an antenna icon in the corner of the display with at least one bar. If you do not, the keypads may not 'belong to' (be paired with) the base you're using. Check if you're supposed to be operating in Open Mode, Dynamic Mode, or Closed Mode.

Then try another base (only one at a time).

If you DO have at least one bar next to the antenna icon, make sure the vote is open, or use the Base Manager --> Test Keypads mode (as shown above). During this process, you should see "R" and "T" flashing at the top of the keypad display, to indicate that the keypad and the base receiver are "receiving" and 'transmitting" data between them.
