Why do the AA or AAA batteries leak?

Modified on Thu, Nov 20, 2014 at 1:12 PM

The typical reason for any leakage is a change in temperature in the operating environment, atmospheric pressure, age of the battery and manufacturing defect.

After 40 years of being in the audience response business (and using AA and AAA batteries in our products), we have concluded that the current battery technology, no matter who the manufacturer is, does not come close to 100% reliability.  You will find that some percentage of the keypad will experience leakage, but at the same time, the problem is easily solved by cleaning the contacts and replacing them.
