Cannot insert a slide - McAfee blocks Excel

Modified on Wed, 14 Mar 2018 at 06:33 PM

When you select a slide from the Insert Slide drop-menu, you should see an Excel window pop-up for a moment and then the polling slide should be shown with Question Text, Answer Text, Chart, as well as Vote Counter and Countdown objects.

But sometimes, the slide doesn't get inserted correctly, or some of the objects are missing. This can be caused by your anti-virus software being overly protective and blocking the Excel component of our software.

One of the errors can be triggered by the McAfee On-Access Buffer Overflow Protection module:

The solution is to either turn off the anti-virus completely for the time being, or while you determine if that's really the cause of this issue, or you can create some exclusions (exceptions) that will tell the anti-virus to stop 'scanning' for threats within our software and related Microsoft apps (PowerPoint and Excel).

To add an exception, open the McAfee Settings (Buffer Overflow Protection Properties) and add "powerpnt.exe", "excel.exe" and "ez-vote connect.exe" to the exclusions list:
